Why participate?

In addition to getting the chance the solve a real-life public health challenge, The hackathon is an incredible opportunity to network with brilliant students across some of the world's best universities

The Challenge

According to the WHO, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, are the leading cause of mortality and account for 70% of deaths worldwide. The prevalence of NCDs is predicted to increase by 17% in the next 10 years, which demonstrates the significance this challenge places on health systems to address these health needs 

How can technology help?

THIS IS A NON-TRADITIONAL HACKATHON. You do NOT have to come up with a tech product, just an idea.

Entry requirements

Participants must be current students or recent graduates (up to 3 years post-graudation) 

Team formation

Code To Care strongly encourage the formation of diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and prizes will be awarded to teams that reflect this

We will provide a dedicated Slack channel and a 'speed-dating' style Zoom networking session on Thurs 25 June, 17:30 - 19:00 (BST) to facilitate team formation. This is the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded students who are also passionate about improving the lives of those living with NCDs


Teams of 3-5 students must be submitted by

Mon 29 June @ 20:00


The prize pool is currently worth over £3,000.

The exact prizes up for grabs will be announced shortly

Final submission

On Thurs 2 July, 14:00 (BST) all teams must submit a 2-min pre-recorded video pitch & a short summary explaining the issue that they are solving and their proposed solution

A panel of judges will then select the top teams for the live finals on Fri 3 July. The live pitch will be 3-mins with 5-mins of Q&A.

Winners will be announced during the closing ceremony on Fri 3 July
